Show notes

Welcome to the Secrets to Surviving Podcast mini series with all the tips and tricks you need to help you get throw those hindsight moments. This series will explore all the tips you need to survive uni life as we get real world advice from current students - a podcast for students by students.

This episodes recommendations are:

  • Textbooks; download your individual booklist and get in early to check the library availability to borrow the book or the university second hand bookshops/groups. Digital versions are also usually available and often can be cheaper then the physical book.
  • Electives; you CAN pick what classes to take - they are optional subjects to get credit points so use them to your advantage

Interview with Charlotte Ross

Charlotte is a high school student about to start year 12 and pre university selection. This interview covers her first hand insights into the current pre university experiences.

The key points to take away from her interview include;

  • Talk to people about your options! Whether it’s family friends, peers, family, teachers or whoever you can about what the courses you’re interested in are like.
  • University isn’t the only option
  • If you don’t get into your preferred course straight away there are bridging courses and other ways to get there
  • You can change your mind, change your degree and change your path
  • Research the universities if possible to find which is best for your degree and learning style. Some specialise in practical learning and work experience, some in theory and more academic approaches. Attend open days and read about the university your thinking of choosing.
  • Uni life = flexible lifestyle. You pick your timetable and it’s up to you to attend and do the work. You don’t have teachers leaning over your shoulder pushing you along and making sure your completing work early.

Thank you for listening to Secrets to surviving with Charlotte Ross - episode one on this mini series on the tips and tricks for surviving the university transition and uni life!
